Design at the scale of the body and the habitat. Medical product development, 3D printing and space architecture brought architectural thinking into a new field.

Thomas contributed through Aerospacemedic International as a designer, researcher and project coordinator. The work connected medical-device concepts and material development with lunar and Mars habitat studies and a space hospital proposal developed with the University of Washington.

Role & contribution

Director of Space Research and Technology

  • 2D and 3D product design, visualisation and animation
  • 3D printing and material research and development
  • Space architecture and habitat design research
  • Project management, research and multidisciplinary coordination

01

Medical product design

The internal jugular vein massaging / assessment brace received NASA Phase 1 funding through the project team, facilitated by the University of Washington. Other work included a hand-held IJV massager, a 3D-printed tracheostomy device with completed IP, and development studies for a VP shunt and impact neck brace decelerator.

02

Space architecture + research

Lunar and Mars habitat concepts, a space hospital proposal with the University of Washington, and interior research explored environments for life beyond Earth. This research was selected for the International Astronautical Congress 2021 in Dubai. Thomas also contributed to the ASMI mentorship programme for an International Space University student.
